My sister lives in a great apartment in New York City… high ceilings, exposed brick wall, beautiful original flooring, fabulous fireplace!
But, her bedroom walls were lacking.
After many months of looking for frames at estate and garage sales, I finally gathered enough to compose an arrangement above her bed. Below was my first attempt at laying them out before painting. I wanted to decide on the paint color for each frame based on placement. I added in a mirror I had laying around, but the rest were all great finds from various sales.
My sister’s bedroom walls are Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist. I painted the frames in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Paris Grey, Duck Egg Blue and Old White to complement the walls, her new bedding and area rug. I added in a new whimsical frame I found at Michaels. (It was black and I painted it Paris Grey.) And I painted over the raccoon in the watermelon and added love instead. I hope you would agree that was a good decision. Here are the beautiful vintage frames given an update.
Because she’s my sister – I even hung everything on the wall for her! (She did buy me a great dinner at Spring Natural Kitchen on the Upper West Side though.)
Gathering the frames took quite awhile and the arrangement changed slightly from my original plan, but it came together beautifully and I am so happy with the results!

The picture frames look fabulous! I used frames over my daughter’s dresser/changing table to create a wall gallery … too bad I have yet to fill the frames 🙂 Your sister is lucky to have you help out with decorating!!
