This chair came together better than I could have imagined!
It first started with this amazing antique grain sack I found on etsy. It is a handwoven and hand loomed hemp linen grain sack made around 1880. The etsy seller is Christina and her shop is called grain sack. It was embroidered with K E – mine and my husband’s initials. I didn’t know what I would do with it, but I knew I had to have it!
I picked up this chair a few months ago at a local estate sale. It had been sitting in my basement waiting for inspiration to hit me.
Once I received the antique grain sack in the mail from Austria I knew that it had to go on this chair! I removed three layers of old fabric and cushioning from the chair seat and reupholstered the seat with a piece of the grain sack.
I painted the chair in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old White and lightly distressed to allow the dark wood to show through. I finished it with Annie Sloan Clear Soft Wax and reattached the seat. The result is one of my favorite projects yet!
I plan on making a throw pillow or two with the remaining grain sack with our initials. They will look perfect across the living room from this chair which now serves as my computer desk chair.
Vintage finds like these add such life and character to a room! Don’t you agree?
