A Dresser in Old Ochre and an Old White Wax

I have been keeping busy with client painting projects, but still find time for a project for my own home once in awhile!

We have had this dresser for about 10 years. I found it on ebay and my husband drove us to Long Island from New Jersey to pick it up.

It’s a beautiful mahogany with great details and the original hardware. (I started taking the hardware off before I remembered to take this photo!) But the details and the hardware were lost with all the dark wood. And knowing that we will soon refinish our floors in a dark stain (can you see how badly the floors need some love!??), I really wanted to lighten up this dresser.

I decided to paint just the drawer fronts in Annie Sloan Old Ochre. I wasn’t loving the Old Ochre with my wall color, so I mixed and applied a white wax of Annie Sloan Old White and Clear Wax. This softened it up for me and created a beautiful finish like linen. I was pleasantly surprised.

Finally, I cleaned up the hardware with some Baroque Art Guilder’s Paste in German Silver – which is really a nice soft gold.

Now this piece has a nice, light feminine feel for my corner of the bedroom! I’m always very happy to complete a project for my own home!
