I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Now it’s time to start the Christmas holiday decorating! But before I do, I wanted to share this grain sack inspired coffee table that I painted several months ago.
Friends, family and clients now give me furniture that they no longer need or use. I acquired this coffee table from my friend and HMH client, Shannon. It was her parents’ coffee table and had been sitting in her basement unused for years. It had water damage on the top and was a dated, orangey oak, but I immediately saw the potential.
I painted the table Annie Sloan Old Ochre and the grain sack stripe in Annie Sloan Graphite. I distressed the edges and details. Finally, I waxed the entire table in Clear Wax and then went over it again with a white wax mixture of Old White and Clear Wax.
The white wax gave a lot more texture and interest, especially to the stripes. And new hardware from Anthropologie gave the finishing touch.
I’m keeping this for our family room for now, but I may change my mind and put it up for sale when another coffee table with great potential comes my way! Thanks, Shannon!

So beautiful! U do amazing work!!
Bravo. What do you do with the furniture. I just started following you.
I am keeping this piece, but I do sell most pieces that I paint.
I love the look of the white wax over the graphite chalk paint. The color looks much more blue. I’m going to try this on my next piece. Thank you for the inspiration!
