I offer a complementary in-home consultation to clients. I visit their house to see the piece of furniture that they are considering redesigning. Sometimes I am very excited to see the furniture. This was one of those times.
Mary had a three-piece set of her Grandmother’s bedroom furniture – two dressers and a vanity. As with most of the furniture I work on… the vanity was dark and well-worn.
But, it was solid and cherished. Mary wanted to redesign and lighten it up for her master bedroom. We decided on Annie Sloan Country Grey. I had never painted with Country Grey. But I now love it! As Annie’s website says … “It is a perfect cool soft neutral.” Mary’s vanity is now light, bright, updated… and styled for Christmas.
I distressed the greek key details, fluting and edges. I painted lightly around the wood trim beading on the drawers so the paint didn’t settle in between the beads. We kept the original brass ribbon handles. I just cleaned them with a little vinegar. They just look so lovely now against the painted wood.
The mirror and frame is a separate piece that sits atop of the vanity. The brass pins hold the mirror onto the frame and allow it to tilt. The carved details at the top are just beautiful.
I lined the drawers with a simple feminine paper.
I enjoyed staging this piece for Christmas with my mom’s gold mirrored vanity tray, some greenery, felt garland from Land of Nod and our family holiday card.
And if you will indulge me … a couple more photos because I loved this piece so much! Do you see the base and side details on the mirror frame? Amazing.
And the original wood caster feet! Love. Love. Love. I cleaned them up with a little Miss Mustard Seed Hemp Oil on the metal and the wood wheels.
This vintage piece of furniture was a joy to work on. I am so excited to paint the two dressers in this set in the new year! Thank you for trusting me with your Grandmother’s vanity, Mary!
