This vintage high back chair has been in my family for as long as I can remember. My parents found it at an auction and it was in their bedroom and our living room at my childhood homes. My Mom had it reupholstered in this sage green many years ago. You can see how faded it got over the years from the original color hidden behind the head rest.
It was a well-loved piece, but when my parents were ready to part with it – it sat in my basement for four years, missing its seat cushion and in desperate need of reupholstery.
My inspiration for redesigning it was a chair that I coveted by Arhaus and one that Ashley of Vintage Refined reupholstered on her own. You can see how she transformed her piece here.
But, the Arhaus chair is $1,900 (on sale!)! Way out of my comfort zone for a chair. And I don’t have mad upholstery skills like Ashley.
So, I enlisted the help of Lisa of & Design to help me source the buffalo plaid fabric. (I’m obsessed and want to put buffalo plaid in every room!) And I hired Javier of Garwood Upholstery to do the hard work for me.
The wood frame was very dinged up and I didn’t love the original stain color, so I did refinish the frame with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and sealed it with General Finishes Satin Top Coat.
I am in love and so happy to create a little reading nook in my master bedroom!
