If you have been following me for any amount of time now, you will have noticed that I only paint vintage pieces of furniture. I have always had a fondness for old things. I love walking the booths at antique malls, rummaging through basements and attics at estate sales, picking discarded pieces of old furniture from the side of the road.

So when Mrs. P (I have a hard time calling her Alison, as she was once my daughter’s teacher!) asked me to redesign her vintage dry sink, I was thrilled!

For those that may not know, dry sinks were used in homes before indoor plumbing. The slightly recessed top was made to hold a basin and a pitcher and collect any spilled water. They were found in kitchens and bathrooms of homes.

Here is the before of this dry sink.

I painted the piece in General Finishes Lamp Black and finished it with a hand rubbed Miss Mustard Seed wax. Mrs. P and I worked together to chose the new pulls (from Anthropologie). And she had a beautiful piece of marble cut to fit in the recessed top.
