Grandma’s nightstand was well loved and had seen better days! But Susan saw the potential in it and reached out to Hazel Mae Home to redesign it for her little girl’s bedroom.
After an initial sanding and cleaning, she needed some repairs! There were some cracks in those cute bun legs that needed wood filler. And the top veneer was pulling away and needed Gorilla Glue and clamping.
After another cleaning, I painted on two coats of General Finishes Stain Blocker and Primer. This is an important step when painting a dark wood piece with a light paint color. Susan had chosen a the soft Ballet Pink from General Finishes so this step was a must.
I have never painted with this color before and it was fun! It’s a soft, sweet pink that allows all of the carved details of this piece to shine!
I added Gold Leaf Rub n Buff to the brass hinges and popped on two gold knobs that I had laying around. Susan purchased these adorable brass sleeping fox pulls from Anthropologie that will go on when this nightstand reaches its place in her daughter’s bedroom!
I am always so happy to update family heirloom pieces! I hope this one stays in the family for many years to come!
