I adore these tall dressers with the curvy legs and ornate carvings. But, this one had a lot going on. A bit too much.
I loved the burl wood on the bottom three drawers and would love to have kept it, but the veneer was dry and chipping and flaking. I tried saving the veneer on the top drawer, but it was chipped in the corners and even after staining the drawer, I could still see the wood filler and that bothered me!
So … I decided to paint all the drawers and body and stain the legs, top and bottom carved details. Annie Sloan Athenian Black Chalk Paint and General Finishes Walnut Stain … a perfect combination!
I slightly distressed the edges and finished the body and drawers with a mixture of Annie Sloan Clear and Black Wax. I would explain the finish as “leathery”. It changes with the light and has a little texture from the differing woods on all of the drawers.
The beautiful original drawer pulls are brass! I cleaned and shined them with Brasso and they are amazing! The top round drawer pulls may not be original to this dresser. They are not brass, but I applied Gold Leaf Rub ‘n Buff and the color is very very close to the original brass.
The drawers are lined with my favorite black floral paper. I have only a little bit more of this paper! What will I do when it’s gone?!
I am pleased to offer this dresser for sale to a local buyer. It measures 34″ wide, 18″ deep and 54″ tall. It is ready for pick up this weekend. I am asking $475, including NJ sales tax. Please email or message me on social media to see it in person!
